Section 3: Supplemental (Non-Vacancy Specific) Recruitment Activities Undertaken by Employment Unit

Covering Period June 1,  2003 - May 31, 2004
Stations Comprising Station Employment Unit: WFXD, WKQS, WHCH, WQXO
Great Lakes Radio, Inc. expanding internal seminars and education of all persons working in its employment unit to ensure that all management and those with influence in advancement and the employment process understood our long-term goals to properly recruit new hires and how to outreach to our community to encourage a wide cross-section of all community members to consider employment in our station in particular and the broadcast industry in general.  Two broadcasting seminars were conducted at Northern Michigan University by the CEO, Todd Noordyk, generating great interest in both Internships and part-time positions at our stations.
Every Job opening was posted, part-time and full-time, our our websites. The number of recruitment resources utilized increased over the reporting period as new recruitment resources were evaluated and then approved for use.
Broadcasts welcoming organizations that regularly distribute information about employment opportunities to job applicants or have job applicants to refer were regularly undertaken while traditional outreach programs such as station tours, internships, and educational engagements were continued.   Consequently, our broadcast facilities were directly used to inform community organizations of career opportunities during most recent reporting period.
Active internships programs at station were authorized just as Internet outreach was expanded.  The most recent seminar that the company president conducted at the local university generated enough enthusiasm to encourage an intern to both seek and obtain academic credit for the 40+ hours of on-site internship  experience.   This internship program has so much promise in outreach, and it is hoped it can be expanded this upcoming fall term, providing additional opportunities for outreach to communities and groups that might not otherwise have the opportunity to explore commercial radio broadcasting as a viable career.
Additional exploration of new avenues to disseminate job opportunities and recruitment continues, including expanding the outreach opportunities with the local community groups.  A specialized computer program to track every interview and to track the details needed to comply with EEO has also been okay-ed by upper-level management and is expected to be regularly available to interviewers on the companies Intranet for contemporaneous recording of interview data by Mid-July of 2004.
Network and Station Employment Policy statements were re-enforced to all current employees and introduced to all new employees to indicate the following position of Great Lakes Radio, Inc.:
Great Lakes Radio, Inc. and all its associated stations in the Station Employment Unit is dedicated to affording equal opportunity to all qualified persons and that no person shall be discriminated against in employment on the basis of race, color, religion, nation origin, or sex.  There are specific new outreach activities and record keeping required showing compliance, and every person at Great Lakes Radio, Inc. is affected.   Everyone from the janitor to the cake decorator, when classified under the rule as an employee, must be part of the process that insures employment opportunities are disseminated in the widest possible manner, though multiple mediums, throughout our community.
Every effort has been taken by management, including many man-hours of time expended, to ensure full compliance with both the letter and spirit of the Equal Employment Opportunity Rules.   We also intend to participate in the Summer Job Fairs at the local University this summer and continue to expand our employment contact list to improve our coordination with local community organizations to ensure successful future wide dissemination of specific job opportunities at Great Lakes Radio, Inc. and  to encourage the widest possible numbers of people to explore employment opportunities in the broadcast industry in general.  The following is a good example in that spirit:
Great Lakes Radio Stations WFXD 103.3, WKQS 101.9, WHCH 98.3, are looking for organizations that regularly distribute information about employment opportunities to job applicants or have job applicants to refer.  If your organization would like to receive notification of job vacancies at our stations, please notify:
